Location

The Inuit name for Clyde River is Kangiqtugaapik which translates to mean nice little inlet and is locate on the northeastern coastal area of Baffin Island. It is a very picturesque location with magnificient fiords surrounded by high mountains and steep cliffs. The majestic scenery of the area draws tourists from around the world who arrive by either scheduled flights or private charter flights. Private charter flights are the most convenient and quickest travel option but unless you have a group of 6 - 8 passengers the cost of a charter flight from many of the major Canadian cities to the south could be very cost prohibitive. Scheduled flights however are not cheap either. Airlines to the south enjoy a mass market which allows them to keep fares competitive, however airlines in the north have much higher operating costs and do not enjoy the same mass market and therefore the costs are much higher.

The airport is located 2.5 miles northeast of the community and has a single 3,500 foot runway making it accessible to a wide range of charter aircraft approved for gravel runway operations
