Fogo Island is located just off the northeastern coastline of Newfoundland. There is not bridge to the island making the only accessible travel by ferry boat or aircraft. The Island does have a 3,000 foot asphalt runway making it acccessible to a variety of private and charter aircraft. There is no scheduled airline service to the airport, however private air charter flights can be arranged from numerous departure points throughout Canada and the USA.

There is no Canadian Border Services Agnecy on Fogo Island, so if you are flying private charter flight to Fogo, you will need to make a stop at a larger Canadian Airport in order to clear Canadian Customs, prior to your arrival on the island. Depending on your flight route, you could stop in Halifax, St John's or Saguenay-Bagotville Airport in Quebec.

Scheduled Airline Flights From Toronto To Fogo Island

Both Air Canada and West Jet Airlines offer flights to St John's Newfoundland from Toronto Pearson Airport. There are some non stop flights available as well as flights with a stop and or plane change in Montreal or Halifax. Prior to the Covid Pandemic, Porter Airlines offered flights to St John's on a seasonal basis from their main operations base on Toronto Island - Billy Bishop Airport. Flight service with Porter previously ran from April to January and required a stop in Quebec City or Halifax.

Once you arrive in St John's you then have a few options on how to best travel to Fogo Island. The quickest and easiest way is to take a direct charter flight from St John's to the Fogo Island Airport.

Your other travel option from St John's to Fogo Island is to rent a car at the St John's Airport and drive 4.5 hours to the Ferrry Terminal located in northeastern Newfoundland. You will drive north through Clarenville and Gander all the way to Farewell. Here you will catch the Ferry for the 1 hour and 15 minute Ferry Ride to Fogo Island.

Non Stop Charter Flights From Toronto to Fogo Island

Fogo Island is a very popular travel and tourism destination with hundreds of visitors arriving here each year from Southern Ontario. One of the more popular travel options for these visitors, is a non stop charter flight direct to the Fogo Island Airport. The one way mileage from Toronto to Fogo is just under 1300 air miles - so a direct charter flight is perhaps not the cheapest way to travel. However if your time is limited and you do not enjoy changing flights, long security lines and waiting in crowded passenger terminals - a direct charter flight is certainly the way to go.

Depending on the size of your group traveling and the type of aircraft - jet or turbine - the flight time direct from Toronto will be 3.5 - 4 hours. If you want to reduce the cost of your charter flight per person, it helps to have a larger group. Most charter aircraft in the Toronto area are designed to take anywhere from 4 - 8 passengers. However, larger groups of 12 - 30 passengers can also be accommodated.
